Immediate Patch Priority for Microsoft Users

CVE-2024-30078 Can Be Exploited Without Any User Interaction

Microsoft has identified a significant Wi-Fi vulnerability in Windows, rated 8.8 out of 10 on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System. Known as CVE-2024-30078, this flaw does not necessitate physical access to the targeted computer but does require physical proximity. An unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute remote code on the affected device. Alarmingly, this Wi-Fi driver security issue impacts all supported versions of the Windows operating system.

Microsoft also warns that an attacker does not need user authentication or access to settings or files on the victim’s machine to exploit this vulnerability. Additionally, the user of the targeted device does not need to take any action: there is no link to click, image to load, or file to execute.

WISE WORDS FROM OUR IT DEPT.

Unfortunately, there is no magic solution to protect your systems and data. You must have a comprehensive, multi-layered approach and you need to adjust for the ever-changing challenges and potential threats.

Our Insight

We emphasize the importance of automating and managing all your Windows patching. This is especially true with laptops that are often turned off when not being used causing patching to be delayed; laptops are the units that might go on public wifi. An aggressive patching policy would eliminate this concern.
